Description
Gavin Minter has been singing for forty years and it shows in the easiest way possible. He sings a song like he is telling it to you, then talks to the room between numbers like everyone has met before.
SeekArt presents the Gavin Minter Quartet at Cape Town Jazz Club on Sunday 15 November. Two sets, 20:00 and 21:15. Standards, a few of his own, and the songs he is known for, including My Cherie Amour, which he has sung on stage with Stevie Wonder.
Gavin is a SAMA-nominated vocalist, up for Best Jazz Album in 2009 for I’ll Be Seeing You, recorded with the Stockholm Jazz Orchestra and Winston Mankunku, which took him back to Sweden on tour. Across seven albums and three decades he has worked with Johnny Fourie, Judith Sephuma, Mandisi Dyantyis and Robbie Jansen, to name a few.
The band is the other half of the ticket. Andrew Ford on piano, one of the city’s most called-on players and the man behind Nuthouse Recording Studio. Wesley Rustin on double bass, a spectacle to behold (trust us). Kevin Gibson on drums, one of the finest drummers this country has produced. You’re in for a treat.
Sunday night: a drink in hand, some good laughs, and some of the finest musicians in the country doing what they do best. Not a bad way to start the new week.
