Description
Daniëlla Rossouw is a captivating jazz vocalist, songwriter and educator, renowned for her expressive voice and dynamic performances, commanding the stage with ease and intrigue.
She left South Africa for Texas and built a career there: a master’s degree from the University of North Texas, three DownBeat awards with the UNT Jazz Singers, standing residencies in Dallas and Fort Worth, and stages shared with Kurt Elling and Sinne Eeg. In 2026 she came home for the UNISA International Voice Competition and took Runner-Up, along with the award for Best Up-Tempo Swing Performance.
SeekArt presents Daniëlla Rossouw at Cape Town Jazz Club on Sunday 8 November. Two sets, with a band she already knows from the inside.
Blake Hellaby accompanied her at that competition, and Kevin Gibson played her finals. What happened on stage between them is the reason this night exists.
She is in the country to record an album of originals and standards, and the band on the record is the band on the stand: Justin Bellairs on saxophone, Blake Hellaby on piano, Sean Sanby on bass and Kevin Gibson on drums. The sessions take up the rest of her time here. This Sunday at Cape Town Jazz Club is her only public performance in South Africa before she flies back to Texas.
As a teacher she works with singers on the things that are hard to teach: phrasing, time, and the nerve to sit inside a lyric rather than decorate it. Those are the same things her own singing is built on. Expect standards taken somewhere, originals from the new record, and a studio ready band of some of Cape Town’s finest.
